Title: 22

Word Count: 275
Rating: T
Fandom or Original: original
Pairings (if any): none
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con/etc): none
Your Text: In light of your oncoming completion of twenty-three years of personhood, I feel a pressing need to blast country-pop phenomenon Taylor Swift's hit single "22" in your general direction until midnight.
Summary: Mara insists on an early birthday celebration.
Mara comes sweeping into the room in her typical, attention gathering fashion and plops her laptop next to Helena in a way that makes her wince.
“So,” Mara says as she brings iTunes up on her screen, “In light of your oncoming completion of twenty-three years of personhood, I feel a pressing need to blast country-pop phenomenon Taylor Swift's hit single ‘22’ in your general direction until midnight.”
Helena blinks in response to Mara’s statement. That had not been what she was expecting. “I’m not even turning 23 for another two months.”
“I know, but I’ll be in Russia and planning a wedding by then, and you’ll be too consumed with planning for your kid then, so we really we have to do it now,” Mara says matter-of-factly.
“If you insist,” Helena says waving at the computer to tell her to start playing the song.
Mara laughs in triumph and starts the song. Even though she is acting like she has won major victory, Helena knows that Mara always knew she would win because Mara always wins and because soon they won’t be able to blare music together for hours on end because Mara will be starting her life in Russia again with Vasiliy, and she’ll be a mother. After her trip to Russia for the wedding, they may never see each other again, at least not face to face. The next week until graduation is the mark of the end of college and the end of their lives together.
“By the way, we’re getting breakfast after this.”
“Mara, we’re not going to Denny’s at midnight again.”
“But four dollar all you can eat pancakes!”
